Who we are

The Sol-UN core team is comprised of an indigenous project advisor, a project coordinator and an on-site reporting team director, all of whom have a longstanding professional experience in international public law and indigenous issues, particularly at related UN and international meetings. The reporting team for each meeting is recruited from a roster of qualified reporters and technical assistance staff maintained by the core team.

In order to uphold quality and efficiency in our reporting in the service of readers and communities relying on the information published in our Bulletins, we maintain a well-defined criteria for qualifications of staff. These include:

  • Native or fully fluent speakers in one of the reporting languages, and fluency in at least one other reporting language;

  • Experience in notetaking and reporting, preferably on the Sol-UN IRB team, with close attention to detail, and familiarity with names of speakers and delegations;

  • Experience at UN meetings and understanding of UN and legal terms;

  • Self-motivated, fast, efficient, team-oriented, strong organizational skills;

  • Committed to timely completion of quality reports, willingness to work long hours and late evenings on rotation throughout the meeting, with multiple task flexibility;

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to indigenous issues;

  • Agreement of the indigenous caucus in meetings where they are participating;

  • Priority is given to integrating qualified indigenous reporters, as possible, in meetings of interest.

This final criteria is an important aim of Sol, to value indigenous participation in the reporting process whenever possible on matters of concern.
